Errors & Omissions

After publication of "With Malice & Cunning," certain regrettable errors in the translation were discovered. Many thanks to those that discovered them.

Play #1: Instead of: "...and you will be sure to stay in a wide stance..."

It should read: "...you will make sure to keep your stance not too wide, so as to be better able to push yourself near him or retire backward..."

After "here if the enemy has his sword in presence":

"You will make a small feint of thrusting to his right side but then you will presently pass toward his left side with your right foot driving the true edge of your sword onto his, making a half turn of the hand..."

Play #17 The first paragraph was ommitted. It should read:

"If you find yourself settled in coda lunga stretta with the right foot forward against your enemy and if he is similarly settled, you may press him in this guard by making a gathering step forward and as you do so feint a thrust to his flank, remaining vigilant so that if he attacks you with a blow to your lower parts you will drive a thrust in this tempo to his face or his chest. You may also strike his sword hand with a thrust or cut, as you prefer."

The second paragraph should then be what is currently the first paragraph, "But if he throws a mandritto to your head."

Play #22 After "feinting a thrust to his flank," the passage should read:

"As he defends himself from the thrust, immediately make a sfalsata of your sword under his and in this tempo you will pass with your right foot toward his left side driving the true edge of your sword onto your adversary’s sword. Push it strongly toward his right side or a bit downwards and with remarkable speed drive a thrust to his flank behind his sword, making your left foot follow faithfully behind your right foot, turning your body as much as possible, and having your sword ending in a manner of guardia di intrare.

Play #45:

Currently states that you begin as Patient, but you actually begin as Agent.

Play #497

The end reads: "Now pass back with your right foot and settle gracefully into coda lunga stretta with the right foot forward."

The end should read: "Now pass back with your left foot and settle gracefully into coda lunga stretta with the right foot forward.

Play #739:

The first line reads "If you wish to come to grips with your enemy, place yourself in coda lunga lunga..."

It should read "If you wish to come to grips with your enemy, place yourself in coda lunga larga."
